Experience demonstrates that the degree to which any organisation is successful or otherwise is materially dependent upon the quality, skills and experience of it’s ‘Board’. Whatever the organisation’s legal structure whether charity, CIC, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), Limited Company, PLC or public body the ‘Board’ are a group of people who are mutually accountable for the culture, leadership, strategy and performance of the organisation.

The Institute of Directors identify the board’s key purpose is “to ensure the company's prosperity by collectively directing the company's affairs, while meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and relevant stakeholders” while the Charity Commission identifies Charity Trustees ‘are the people who share ultimate responsibility for governing a charity and directing how it is managed and run.’

Here are some examples of the contexts in which we have conducted Board reviews:

  • When a Board Chair wished an independent assessment prior to recruiting new directors
  • When a business owner believed a board change was necessary to implement a new strategy
  • When a major creditor needed assurance on the effectiveness and competence of a client board

By their nature Board reviews are highly confidential and often need to be carried out in a very discrete fashion and with sensitivity.
